Ilustration Friday: Blue
This is a quilt that my mother (who did most of the actual sewing) and I created as a gift for my mother-in-law. The design is based on a Japanese motif, and we used primarily Japanese materials for it's construction. I found the design in "A World of Quilts: 10 Projects Using Ethnic Fabrics" by Beth Ann Williams. The comforter pictured below was assembled with rejected materials and scraps from this and other quilts. It is tied to a down comforter rather than quilted. As you can see my cats, Prudence, a Bombay, and Anais, a Russian Blue, rather enjoy it.

I thought I posted a comment already. What happened?
Thia ia so colorful! I love the various fabrics...would love to see more close-ups! This looks like it was a wonderful projct. I'm glad the kitties appreciate it:>
love the quilt and the cats are a nice touch too!
beautiful quilt
Al -- it must've somehow gotten sucked into the cyber vortex while you were correcting your cats' names! :) I was admiring your original take on the theme, and mentioned that before our old cat died last year, the two cats only ever shared a bed once... and I got it on camera! I was also marvelling at the fact that your mother made a gift for your mother-in-law. You must live in an entirely different social dimension from me! :)
Hi Urban Convert.
Came to see your blog after you had commented on my angel. Poked around in your various blogs and realized that you're into many things. Interesting.
The blue quilt is nice and seems to have some batik etc. in it. Perhaps even Japanese fabrics? They have great fabric designs in the Orient.
On your other blog you had a blue and white bowl of soup. Esthetically appealing picture, and the soup made me hungry...
Have a good week

hey UC
nice quilts. I can see that a lot of the fabrics are very 'oriental' in their design, or pattern.
that makes me curious because I had an image of you being a foreigner living in the orient, but is your mother living there too?
or did you take some materials home and do it there?
now I have reread the entry and I am also curious as to why you still have it if it was a present to your mother in law?
or is it only the lower one that you have and the other is a photo from back then?
lot's of questions hey. just ignore them if you like.
love scott
wow. that is really beautiful and interesting. what a lot of work it must have been
This is an extraordinary work of art. I love it and could go with one right now. Lot of "patience" there ...
Very nice! I can appreciate the work that went in to this. I started a quilt a few years ago, but never finished.I had picked such an intricate pattern for my first attempt, and quickly found that I was in over my head.
The quilt made for your mother-in-law is simply beautiful. Lots of traditional patterns. I hope she loved it as much as I do! What a treasure.
