Illustration Friday: (Not) Free

Shortly after posting my offering for this week's Illustration Friday, I was brutally reminded there are many in this world who are not free, and slavery is not simply something we read about in history books, or read enough about in today's newspapers. I was inspired by the Polaris Project to produce this collage.

This is an intense and powerful piece. Indeed, a great percentage of the world is not free; and is going to bed hungry tonight. The people with the most freedoms should remember this when they wallow in their navel-gazing self-pity.

Thanks for the comments on my site.

It is an interesting approach, few of us use Illustration Friday to make a social statment...
I like the fact that you remimnded us of the opposite.
And thank you for your comments at my blog.
Best C.

I like the collage and the topic. We are very lucky, many of us.

Both illustrations are powerful and meaningful. This one is very disturbing... The illo below is so pretty...the contrast between the heavy chain and the gorgeous butterfly is very effective. You seem to have been doing some deep thinking this week, and you produced two excellent pieces:>

I want to comment on this, because it deserves a comment, but I really can't find the words to express how it makes me feel.
